Consumption of domestic apples up in Ukraine - experts
Over the first five months of this year, Ukraine imported by 42.3% (35,300 tons) of apples less against the same period of the previous year. Reduction of exports also took place by 18.9% (673 tons). Apple production grows every year, therefore such foreign trade indexes testify to the increase of internal consumption.
Experts of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club came to such a conclusion, the Agribusiness Club experts told Ukrinform about this.
Gross yield of apples last year made up 1.126 million tons, which is 229,800 tons (25.6%) less against 2010. The increase of the apple yield is caused by growth of crop capacity by 21.6 centners/ha of plantations at the fruit-bearing age. At the same time, areas under them have grown by only 0.3 thousand ha over recent three years, project manager of the Agribusiness Clubs AgroSchool Volodymyr Matviyuk has said.
By the area of seed plants at the fruit-bearing age the following regions are leading in Ukraine: Vinnytsia region - 18,300 ha, Chernivtsi region - 10,300 ha and Khmelnytsky region - 10,100 ha. However, by the increase of the plantations area Bukovyna leads, which over a period from 2011 until 2012 boosted the lands under seed plants by 3,300 ha.
By gross yield of apples in 2012, the Crimean Fruit Company is leading with its yield at 32,000 tons, Carpo and Svarog West Group shared the second position with a gross yield of 7,000 tons each.
