Canada Ready To Participate Actively In Development Of Cattle Breeding In Ukraine

The press service of Deputy Prime Minister for Regional Policy Viktor Tikhonov announced this in a statement.

Tikhonov met with a Canadian delegation led by Ken Krawetz, the deputy head of the Saskatchewan provincial government and the province’s finance minister.

During the meeting, Tikhonov invited the Saskatchewan province’s businesspeople to participate actively in implementation of joint projects involving development of the Ukrainian agricultural sector.

According to Tikhonov, export of Ukrainian agricultural raw materials has resulted in a decline of the livestock industry.

Krawetz said Canadian farmers were ready to participate actively in restoration of the rate of development of cattle breeding in Ukraine .

The press service stressed that the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP) is already implementing a program for reform and modernization of the agricultural sector in Ukraine .

In connection with this, Tikhonov expressed the hope that fruitful cooperation between the Saskatchewan province and the Zhytomyr region will begin soon.

The press service also said that a delegation from the Zhytomyr region is scheduled to visit Saskatchewan in early November.

A memorandum of intention regarding cooperation in breeding cattle is expected to be signed during the delegation’s visit to Saskatchewan.

Tikhonov also noted the fruitful cooperation between the Saskatchewan province and the Chernivtsi region in the area of education.

Tikhonov expressed satisfaction with the development of the political dialogue, which, according to him, is taking place in full accordance with the roadmap for Ukrainian -Canadian relations.

According to Tikhonov, the main event in the area of development of relations is Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s upcoming visit to Ukraine .

«I am confident that this will not only end the 11-year pause on visits to our country by Canadian prime ministers, but it will also open up new opportunities for the Ukrainian and Canadian business communities,’ he said.

He expressed confidence that Ukraine and Canada would be able to restore the previous rate of development of bilateral trade and investment cooperation, which has been affected significantly by the global financial crisis.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Ukraine had a cattle population of 5,527,200 as of August 1.
