Belarus to supply 60,000 tonnes of sugar to Ukraine
Belarus is planning to supply 60,000 tonnes of sugar to Ukraine before the new sugar beet harvest, chairman of the Belgospishcheprom concern Ivan Danchenko told reporters.
The Belarusian Agrarian Company has started operations in Ukraine. It has been founded by the Gorodeya, Slutsk, Skidel and Zhabinka sugar refineries. They have founded the company to put sugar deliveries to Ukraine on a centralized basis, Ivan Danchenko said. A free trade regime is applied to beet-root sugar. A joint working group has developed a mechanism for the deliveries of Belarus sugar within the framework of the Belarus-Ukraine agreement on free trade.
“We will export sugar to Ukraine using the same scheme as we apply in Russia – through a special exporter. The Belarusian Agrarian Company will be the only representative of Belarusian sugar producers and will deliver only beet-root sugar at the prices of the Ukrainian domestic market,” Ivan Danchenko said.
As of 23 April, 27,000 tonnes of sugar have been shipped to Ukraine. “We have been given an opportunity to work on the Ukrainian market. As long as our Ukrainian partners need us, we will be present there in the person of the Belarusian Agrarian Company, stressed Ivan Danchenko. The chief of the concern noted that the company with 100% Belarusian capital is a resident company of Ukraine.
A reminder, Ukrainian sugar producers brought up claims over dumping import of sugar from Belarus by different suppliers. The Belarusian Agrarian Company has been set up in accordance with the Ukrainian legislation to form the uniform prices on Belarusian sugar on the Ukrainian market. The company will work to ensure transparency and legality of deliveries of Belarusian sugar to Ukraine. According to the concern, in 2009 Belarus exported 77,900 tonnes of sugar to Ukraine.
