As of June 25, Ukraine produced over 0.5 mln tonnes of grains
As of June 25, 2012, agrarians of Ukraine harvested early grains and leguminous crops throughout the areas of 354.4 thsd ha, with the general forecast of 10.3 mln ha (3% of the forecast), and produced 0.584 mln tonnes of grains with the average yield of 16.5 c/ha, reported the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
As a reminder, on June 29, 2011, Ukraine produced 0.9 mln tonnes of early grains and leguminous crops with the average yield of 28.6 c/ha. At the same time, agrarians harvested grains throughout 316 thsd ha (3% of the forecast).
As of the reporting date in 2012, agrarians harvested winter barley throughout the areas of 170 thsd ha (23%), and produced 0.3 mln tonnes of the grain with the yield at 17.8 c/ha (in 2011 - 28.6 c/ha).
According to the Ministry, in 2012 Ukraine expanded the planted areas under spring grains and legumes by 17.1% compared with to last year - to 8.9 mln ha.
In particular, agrarians planted maize for grain throughout 4.6 mln ha, up 3% compared to the forecasted areas, and up nearly 1.2 mln ha compared to 2011 results. In the current year the millet areas increased by 46 thsd ha compared to last year - to 195 thsd ha, buckwheat areas - 272 thsd ha (almost the same as last year).
In the current year sunflower seed areas exceeded the forecasted level by 3%, and totaled 4.2 mln ha. Agrarians planted soybeans throughout 1.3 mln ha, up 237 thsd ha compared to last year, and up 2% compared to the forecasted areas.
As a reminder with reference to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in 2012 the general grain areas (including winter and spring crops) are forecasted at the level of 15.9 mln ha, almost the same level as in 2011.
