As of April 30, Ukraine decreased spring sowing areas by 7.8%
As of April 30, 2010, agricultural enterprises of all varieties in Ukraine sowed spring agricultural crops (taking into account resowing works of perished winter crop sowings) throughout the areas of 9.3 mln ha, a decrease of 7.8% compared to the indices of the same date of April in 2009, declared the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine on May 14.
According to the data, agrarians sowed spring crops only throughout the area of 8.75 mln ha (87.5% compared to the previous year index). Ukrainian agrarians resowed perished winter crops throughout 554 thsd ha.
As of April 30, Ukraine sowed spring grains and leguminous plants (without maize) throughout 3.4 mln ha (a decrease of 27.6% compared to the same date of the previous year), including 2.4 mln ha of barley sowings (down 31.3%).
Besides, agricultural enterprises sowed sunflower throughout the areas of 1.65 mln ha (down 31.3% compared to the indices of April 30, 2009).
