Agricultural production on rise in Ukraine
The growth of agricultural production in January-February 2010, which amounted to 5.2% compared with the like period in 2009, is one of the highest rates for 2001-2010, said former Minister of Economy Bohdan Danylyshyn.
He recalled that in January-February 2010 production in agricultural enterprises rose by 12.4%, while in households it fell by 0.8%.
According Danylyshyn, average production growth in the agroindustrial sector was at 2.7% since 2001.
Due to the seasonal nature of crop production, gross agricultural output in January-February was formed only at the expense of livestock production.
Danylyshyn noted that the development of production in livestock industry has had a positive impact on high yield of grain crops (46 million tons).
The increased number of livestock and poultry has resulted in a rise in the supply of livestock and poultry for slaughter (live weight) by 3.4% (after a 6.3% decline in January-February 2009), Danylyshyn said.
