Results of the agricultural machinery market development in the first half of this year showed a significant redistribution of market shares among major groups of equipment. Thus, for the first time over five years the imports of tilling equipment, in monetary terms, almost reached the level of imports of machinery for harvesting and threshing of agricultural crops, although in recent years the volume of imports of the first one was twice less than the volume of latter ones.

The increase of the share of tilling equipment on the agricultural machinery market was mainly caused by two factors: 1) a significant increase in the imports of sowing machines (up to 65%), cultivators and disk tillers (about 20 % in each position) for the first half of 2012 compared to the same period of 2011; 2) the decrease in the imports of grain harvesters by 30% (the share of grain harvesters in the whole imports of machinery for harvesting and threshing of agricultural crops is more than 70%).

"The tendency of increase in the share of tilling equipment is understandable. The fast and high-quality soil preparation and planting within the optimal terms is important for obtaining high gross yield, as well as, the threshing of agricultural crops with the help of highly-productive modern equipment. Moreover, not every farmer can afford buying a grain harvester, but to own a sowing machine is more affordable in comparison to the grain harvester and that becomes a crucial factor in the effective organization of agricultural production"- the expert of Agrarian Markets of the Association" Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" Taras Vysotsky said.

At the average, the market of agricultural machinery in Ukraine shows in the first half of 2012 a slight (5-10%) increase comparing with the same period in 2011 and the tendency corresponds to the forecast of the study "Analysis of Agricultural Equipment Demand " conducted by UCAB at the start of the year.
