Agrarian Union: Government in talks with traders on volume of grain exports

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is discussing possible volumes of grain exports with traders and farmers, according to Chairman of the Agrarian Union of Ukraine Hennadiy Novikov, UKRINFORM reported, with reference to the Ekonomicheskie Izvestia newspaper.
Farmers have proposed supplying 4.5 million tons of wheat to foreign markets, traders have increased the level of grain exports to five million tons, with the Cabinet of Ministers intending to export only four million tons.
"Real figures are four million tons of wheat, three million tons of barley and 12 million tons of corn," the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry said.
Taking into account the wishes of the government, it appears that by the end of the marketing year - July 2013 - exports should not exceed 19.4 million tons on main grain crops (wheat, corn and barley). "It's a strange position for the government, because the supply of grain to foreign markets is the largest source of filling the state budget with foreign currency," experts believe.
As it became known, an attachment to the memorandum between the government and traders on the supply of grain abroad is to be signed in Ukraine on September 4, 2012.
