2,500 ha preserved in Ukraine last year
In 2012, Ukraine has preserved 2,500 hectares of land, of which 1,300 hectares through afforestation and 1,200 hectares - meadow lands.
The State Agency of Land Resources has reported about this. “Total land area in need of conservation is 1.1 million hectares. Out of these, 644 hectares - degraded land, 435,400 hectares - unproductive and 11,900 hectares - polluted,” a statement reads.
During the past year, construction or reconstruction of erosion waterworks was carried out on total area of ??779,800 hectares.
According to the State Agency of Land Resources, Ukraine needs to implement construction or reconstruction of approximately 535 erosion waterworks, including: 128 discharge structures and 198 slope terracing structures.
In addition, it is necessary to protect lands, in particular, farm lands from erosion and other adverse environmental processes on the area 1,700 hectares and total length of 36,700 kilometers.
