AgriDrink "Malting barley: niche and profitable one"

Speaker: Marian Zablotskiy, Deputy Chairman of the "Ukrainian agrarian Association" talk about the role of malting barley in the agricultural sector of Ukraine.
Malting barley is one of the types of plant products that has a complete cycle of processing in Ukraine. The Ukrainian brewing industry produces dozens of brands of beer, including foreign, with 100% vested on the Ukrainian barley. But since 2008, beer production in Ukraine fell by almost half, accordingly, the acreage of barley has fallen sharply. The main reason for the falling of consumption of beer – a sharp rise in excise taxes on beer, which have already reached the level of Germany. For malting barley farmers get more money, its cultivation generates higher value added. So at the end of 2016, the farmers first turned to the Verkhovna Rada Committee on agrarian policy and land relations with a request to pay attention to the problem of falling cultivation of malting barley. The corresponding letter was signed by the leaders of the seven agricultural enterprises, including two Hero of Ukraine.
