Import of butter has increased 7.7 times since the beginning of the year
In January-June 2020, dairy products were imported to the amount of USD 137 million which is 2.6 times more than over the same period last year. The increase of supplies to Ukraine from abroad took place in all groups of dairy products. Supply of butter grew more than 7.7 times (+6.5 thousand tons) whereas milk and non-condensed cream grew 5 times (+5 thousand tons).

Forecasts of the world grain production have been reduced
According to July forecast of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), expectations of the world grain production in 2020/21 MY decreased by 29.8 million tons to 2,730.3 million tons (including rice). In particular, it is foreseen to yeild 769.3 million tons of wheat and 1,163.2 million tons of corn in the world. Despite decline in the forecast, the world still expects a record grain harvest.

Profitability of grain production fell almost threefold in 2019
According to the State Statistics Service, in 2019 profitability of grain production decreased to 11.8%, whereas in previous years it constituted about 30%. This is the lowest index since 2014.

From the beginning of 2020 export of nitrogen fertilizers has exceeded import by 63%
According to the State Customs Service, in January-June 2020 export of nitrogen fertilizers (UKTZED code 3102) amounted to USD 142.9 million, while import was USD 87.9 million. Therefore, export exceeded import by 63%.

Brussels is negotiating with Kyiv to avoid a trade battle over fertilizers after Ukraine fired the first salvo – POLITICO
Ukraine notified the World Trade Organization last month that it would impose so-called safeguards to limit imports of nitrogen and complex fertilizers as of June 25 for three years — arguing it’s necessary to combat a spike in imports causing “material injury” to domestic producers, according to internal documents seen by POLITICO.

In April-May 2020 export of nitrogen fertilizers exceeded import by 2.5 times
Ukrainian producers of nitrogen fertilizers are competitive both in the Ukrainian market and in the world market as well. Thus, according to the State Customs Service from July 2019 to May 2020 the net export (surplus of export over import) of nitrogen fertilizers (group 3102 UK TZED) exceeded USD 70 million. In this regard export reached USD 247 million and import amounted to USD 176.

In 2019, export of fresh apples exceeded the previous year's figure by 26.5% and is the highest over the last 5 years. Within specified period, Ukrainian producers increased supplies of domestic apples almost by 11 times.

Ukraine increased agro-food export to Turkey by 71%
According to the results of 2019, Ukraine became the second largest supplier of agro-food products to Turkey and occupied 11% in terms of the structure of Turkish imported agricultural products ceding only to Russia. Last year, supply of agro-food products from Ukraine to Turkey totaled USD 1.4 billion that is 71% more comparing with 2018.
