Winter crops satisfactory
The latest weather is generally satisfactory for winter crops, says Tetiana Adamenko, head of the agro-meteorology department at the Ukrainian Weather Center.
She says that, despite the latest severe frosts, winter crops did not much suffer, because they were covered with snow.
At the same time, the expert noted, the central and eastern provinces reported local icing of some crop areas. "Everything will depend on how long it lasts. If under 15 days, this is absolutely safe, and problems may start after 30 days," Adamenko said.
Ukraine sowed winter crops, including rape, on 10.1 million hectares, which is almost 3% up on last year's acreage.
