Ukrainian poultry producers get opportunity to approach EU market
The European Commission has recognised the Ukrainian Veterinary Service as capable of ensuring the food safety of poultry products, said the head of the State Veterinary Service, Ivan Bisyuk. The Ukrainian side obtained the respective certification two days ago, with Mr Bisyuk noting, "There are [a] few insignificant issues to be solved so that Ukrainian poultry producers could start exports to [the] EU."
Investment implications: Ukraine’s largest broiler producer, MHP (MHPC LI; NR; US$18.49) claimed full compliance of its internal production standards with the EU's standards, stating only that the certification of the state veterinary system removed the company from the opportunity to export poultry meat to the EU. The news is neutral for the company, however, as almost all produced poultry is consumed domestically, while production facilities are 100% loaded; but, it is positive in light of MHP's new project development, which should double its existing capacity by 2015, as part of the increased production was initially planned for the EU market.
