Ukraine to sell grain quotas at auctions if grain quotas imposed, says vice premier
If a decision to restrict grain export to provide food security was made, Ukraine would sell quotas at an auction, according to Ukrainian Vice Premier Borys Kolesnikov.
"For example, a lot of 1 million tonnes is sold. The import quota is $30 per tonne. Who bought [grain] would import it," he told the press at the seventh annual meeting in Yalta on Saturday.
Kolesnikov said that he discussed the issue with Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov earlier this week.
He added that after a recent visit to Japan, he is confident that only Japan is ready to buy all of the quotas.
He said that the grain harvest in Ukraine in 2010 reached 38 million tonnes due to hot weather, while in the previous years it was 48-50 million tonnes.
