Ukraine: temps of winter sowing campaign are delayed

According to the official data in Ukraine the temps of winter wheat sowing campaign face a decrease compared to the last year results. As of October 17, 2011 winter wheat sowed areas totaled 5.99 mln ha as opposed to 6.14 ha stated as of the same date in the previous season.

According to the data of the analysts of APK-Inform Agency, during the last years winter wheat sowing areas were at the level of 6.6-6.7 mln ha. In 2011 due to the unfavorable weather conditions the forecast of the sowing area (according to the data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food) decreased to 6.57 mln ha as opposed to forecasted 6.7 mln ha.

The analysts of the Agency state that according to the data of Hydro Metheorologic Center in 2011 there were unfavorable weather conditions for winter crops sowing campaign realization. Due to the soil drought the agrarians of the certain range of oblasts delayed the sowing campaign until the rains fallout or stopped it due to unviability of further sowing campaign realization after all allowed terms passed out.

Thus this autumn due to the stated facts there were factors for winter crops sowing areas decrease. According to the forecast of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy sowing areas for winter crop of 2012 harvest will total 8.1 mln ha as opposed to 8.3 mln ha as of the same date of the previous year.

As of October 17, 2011 winter crops were sowed throughout 7.12 mln ha. As of the same date of 2010 they totaled 7.37 mln ha.
