Ukraine produces 95,000 tonnes of rice
Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) reported on Jan. 25 that the country produced 94,900 tonnes of rice in 2009, an increase of 55.1% compared to 2008.
The association attributed the increase to expanded harvesting areas by 27% to 15,500 hectares, and increased yields of 10.9 bushels per hectare.
Also in 2009, the general production volumes of buckwheat in Ukraine decreased by 25% 27,000 tonnes, the UGA said. Harvesting areas grew by 33.3% 4,000 hectares, but yields declined by 3.9 bushels per hectare to 7 bushels per hectare.
In 2009, millet production increased by 11.8% and totaled 1,920 tonnes, the UGA said.
