Ukraine. Meat deficit to reach 300,000 tons in 2010
Ukraine is not facing a significant shortage of meat, chairman of the State Veterinary Medicine Committee Ivan Bisiuk has told reporters.
According to him, the shortage of meat in Ukraine will be up to 300,000 tons this year. "This is a small amount, which may be covered even by own production, if needed," Bisiuk said.
"We consume about 2.200 million tons of meat a year. Today, Ukraine yet produces more than 1 million tons of poultry. The number of pigs in Ukraine is almost 9 million of heads," the official underscored.
