Ukraine may cancel quotas on grain exports for its partners in free trade
The Ministry of Economics suggests canceling quotas for grain export to the countries having free trade agreements with Ukraine. The relevant draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers was put on the ministry's website.
The main purpose of the adoption of the document is implementation of the appropriate free trade agreements with the said countries, which stipulates that the signatory parties in mutual trade will refrain from the use of quantitative restrictions or equivalent measures on the export and/or import of goods to which the agreement applies.
Ukraine has valid free trade agreements with Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Estonia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Macedonia.
As reported, starting on October 19, Ukraine introduced quotas for grain exports. The quota is set until 2011 and amounts to 2.7 million tons, in particular on exports of wheat 500,000 tons, corn 2,000 tons, barley 200,000 tons, rye and buckwheat 1,000 tons.
