Ukraine: maize, sunflower and soybean to become the most popular crops of the sowing campaign-2010
Maize, sunflower and soybean will become the most profitable and prospective crops of the sowing campaign-2010 in Ukraine, declared Yaroslaw Udovenko, the analyst of the investment group Sokrat.
According to the expert, relative low investment requirements and unpretentiousness of maize, and the increased demand in the grain on the global market, due to the growing capacities of bioethanol production, became the main reasons of increasing of maize popularity in the world. In 2009, maize prices grew from the level of 0.45 to 1.2 thsd UAH/t. According to the expert, in the current year, maize sowing areas will increase by 10% - to 2.4 mln ha. Such companies as Landkom and Mironovsky Khleboproduct also plan to increase own sowing areas of the grain.
In 2009, sunflower seed prices on the world market grew by 30%. Sunflower prices in Ukraine increased by nearly 89%. Such companies as Agricole and Sintal Agriculture also plan to increase own sowing areas of the oilseed.
According to Y.Udovenko, soybean becomes the main point of interest for agricultural enterprises. Increasing processing capacities and high demand in soybean products from food, meat-processing and pharmaceutical industries form high popularity of the crop.
