Ukraine. Kherson seaport expects to finish building grain terminal in december
The Kherson maritime merchandise state owned port expects to complete the construction of a grain terminal with a storage capacity of 24,000 tonnes in December 2010. The port terminal would be built in two stages. The total area of the grain-handling complex would be 0.52 hectares. The cost of the project is UAH 31.3 million. The port finances the construction from it own funds.
The first stage includes construction of grain handling, storage and shipment facilities, the second stage - the creation of additional facilities to increase handling capacity. The first stage would be finished late next September and the second - late October.
The new complex is to include 11 elevators up to 30 meters high and from ten to 17 meters in diameter connected by galleries for grain transportation.
In addition, the project provides for building of a machine to load vessels at berth # 3 and a grain-handling unit to unload grain from railway cars and trucks. The railcar unloading capacity of the terminal would be 350 tonnes per hour, and that for trucks 250 tonnes per hour.
Kherson port includes moorings equipped with all needed equipment for handling general, and bulk cargos. The moorings are served by 17 port cranes, and six floating cranes, along with 135 units of loading equipment. In 2009, the port saw cargo turnover drop by 25.1%,to 3.196 million tonnes.
