Ukraine hopes to sign agreement on free trade zone with Canada in 2011, says Ukrainian ambassador to Canada
Ukraine has expressed hope that an agreement on a free trade zone with Canada would be signed in 2011, the Ukrainian ambassador to Canada, Ihor Ostash, has said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
"We hope that next year Ukraine and Canada would sign an agreement on a free trade zone. This would be a serious breakthrough for Ukraine, which would allow Ukrainian and Canadian businessmen to considerably expand commodity turnover between the two states," he said.
The ambassador said that talks on the creation of the free trade zone is a very complicated process and it takes at least five or six rounds of talks to finish it.
"Today we've held two rounds and the third one is to take place in Ottawa in late November. I can say that we're approaching to the completion of the first half of the talks, and the most difficult part of the way has been passed," Ostash said.
As reported, on October 25 Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is to come to Ukraine with an official visit.
