Ukraine: Government may cancel restrictions on exports of maize in the near future

At the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on April 27, the authorities may decide to cancel the export quotas of maize, reported Gennadiy Novikov, Chairman of the Agrarian Union of Ukraine, on April 26.

Nikolay Prysiazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, has the tough position for the abolition of quotas on maize exports, said the expert.

As for wheat, the head of the Agrarian Union noted that the Minister again gave the task to calculate the balances of food grains.

As a reminder, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy recommends to the Ukrainian Government to cancel quotas for maize exports. Until the end of the 2010/11 marketing year the country has the carry-over stocks of 2 mln tonnes of maize, which allows to cancel the quotas in the nearest future, according to N.Prysiazhnyuk. The regime of quotas for exports of other grain varieties is planned to be canceled after the completion of the spring field and sowing works - after July 1, 2011.
