Ukraine: as of April 21, nearly 56% of winter crops sowings faced good condition

According to data from regions, as of April 21, 2011, winter grain sowings in Ukraine faced good condition throughout nearly 4.5 mln ha, which totaled 55.9% from the general winter grain sowing areas. 3.054 mln ha of winter grain sowings, or 37.9%, faced satisfactory condition, marked the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. Nearly 498.5 thsd ha (6.2%) of winter crops sowings showed weak and thinned condition.
Also, 35.9 thsd ha of winter grain sowings perished, which totaled 0.4% from 8.088 mln ha of general sowing areas in Ukraine.
The Ministry also informed that as of the reporting date, 31.9 thsd ha of winter wheat sowings perished (0.5%). At the same time, winter wheat showed good condition indices throughout the areas of 3.68 mln ha or 56.5% of the general areas, satisfactory condition – 2.47 mln ha (37.9%).
Winter barley showed good condition indices throughout 630.8 thsd ha or 51.2% of the areas, satisfactory condition – 484 thsd ha (39.3%), weak and thinned condition – 117.7 thsd ha (9.5%). 13.7 thsd ha of the grain sowings perished (1.1%).
Winter rye sowings faced good and satisfactory condition throughout 189.7 thsd ha (66.4% of the areas), and 87.5 thsd ha (30.6%), respectively.
As of the reporting date, rapeseed sowing areas perished throughout the areas of 44.7 thsd ha (4.1% of the general sowings of the crop – 1.082 mln ha), faced weak and thinned condition throughout 110.2 thsd ha (10.6%), good condition – 504.6 thsd ha (48.6% of the sowings), satisfactory condition – 422.6 thsd ha (40.8%).
