Ukraine. Agrarian ministry says sunoil exports may reach 60% of global market
At end-2010, with the trends on the domestic grain market taken into account, the export of sunflower oil from Ukraine may reach 60% of the world market, while in 2009 it was 54%, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Yevhen Lavrov has said.
He recalled that in order to encourage the production of sunflower oil in the country, in 1999 Ukraine introduced export duty on sunflower seeds at the rate of 23% with a subsequent decrease to 17% in 2004.
The introduced export duty, according to Lavrov, was a factor to reduce exports and contribute to the increased production of sunflower oil in the domestic market. In his words, it also increased the capacity of the oil and fat sector, as well as the proportion of sunflower oil exports on the world market.
