The Ukrainian agricultural sector welcomes the EU Joint Business Declaration calling for a more open EU trade policy
The Ukrainian farmers and agricultural exporters, represented by UCAB, welcome the EU Joint Business Declaration published on July 15 and signed by 31 leading European business associations, which calls for a more open EU trade policy.
It is a very encouraging signal to Ukraine that the European business urge the EU institutions and the European decision makers to pursue an ambitious and open trade policy which is essential to supporting the EU’s competitiveness. As the declaration rightly points out, achieving this objective would be next to impossible without trade facilitation and a lowering of market access barriers for both exports and imports, while the other EU policies with potential impact on trade with third country partners should be thoroughly evaluated with feedback from the trade partners.
As the UCAB President Dr. Alex Lissitsa said, “we hope that the principles and values professed in this Declaration will be put into practice in EU relations with Ukraine, a bulwark of Europe against the existential threat of the Russian aggression, a future EU Member State and a key EU partner in food security and sovereignty. The Ukrainian farmers and agricultural enterprises look forward to working with the EU business and the EU policy makers to help put these principles to work for our shared prosperity”.
