Sugar still freely traded between Belarus and Ukraine
If the previous intergovernmental agreements between Belarus and Ukraine stay in place, Ukraine will not apply any sanctions to Belarusian sugar and sugar will not be removed from free trade procedures. The statement was made by Roman Bezsmertny, Ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus, at a press conference on 18 August.
“As a last resort we may use WTO-regulated sanctions against Belarus despite the fact that Belarus is not a WTO member,” said the diplomat.
Speaking about prospects of restricting Ukrainian beer import to Belarus, Roman Bezsmertny said that such talks will always happen regardless of political regimes and property laws. “To regulate the domestic beer market is a task of the Belarusian government. The Ukrainian side has to tune domestic laws to leave the Belarusian side no reasons to restrict imports from Ukraine,” said the diplomat.
