Russia: trading volumes of deliverable futures for wheat in National commodity exchange reached the highest rate in July 2009

In July 2009, the trading volumes of deliverable futures for wheat in the National commodity exchange, constituent of the group of Moscow Interbank currency exchange, totaled 12892 contracts (over 800 thsd tonnes of the grain) at the sum of 3.94 bln RUR, declared the news release of the commodity exchange on August 3.

July showed the highest results of monthly turnovers on the market of deliverable futures for wheat in the National commodity exchange compared to other months of 2009, an increase of 7.5% compared to average month indices of the first half year of 2009.

On July 31, 2009, the commodity exchange completed wheat futures contracts trading with delivery in July 2009. The general volumes of deliveries of July wheat futures totaled 3120 tonnes.

From the moment of the market launching on April 9, 2008, to July 31, 2009, the turnover of the market reached the level of over 10.5 mln tonnes at the sum of 54.5 bln RUR (165076 contracts).

The National commodity exchange was founded in July, 2002 in order to organize the exchange commodity market. The National Commodity Exchange circulates two types of wheat futures contracts: futures contracts for supplies of 3-, 4-, and 5-grade wheat (contract volume - 65 tons) with delivery terms of EXW-elevators of the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation and futures contracts for export wheat (contract volume - 60 tons) with delivery terms of FOB-Novorossiysk port.
