Russia to import grain volumes
According to the materials of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, which the Ministry announced last week, in the current year grain imports to the country will face the increase to the level of 2.5– 3 mln tonnes as opposed to 0.6 mln tonnes last year.
According to Vedomosti with the reference to representatives of two companies – large-scale Russian grain exporters, the Government plans to import grains from near-abroad countries, first of all from Kazakhstan.
A high-ranking official of the Ministry of Economy of the Russian Federation confirmed to the informational company that the Government provides the discussion on grain import issue. The decision has not been accepted yet.
If it is true, it will be rather serious reason for activation of the bullish trends, stated Owen Sauthwud, the Chief Grain Trader of Dewing Grain. Such factor will change the dynamics on the market in rather essential way.
Oleg Aksyonov, the official representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, stated that the Ministry did not plan any discussions on grain import issue to Russia.
As of August 18, Russia harvested 40.1 mln tonnes of grains (in bunker weight), down 14.7 mln tonnes compared to the same date last year. According to the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, grain production in clean wight will total 60-65 mln tonnes as opposed to 97 mln tonnes last year.
In the current agricultural year (July 2010 - June 2011), grain export volumes from Russia will be at the level of 2-4.5 mln tonnes with the general grain production volumes at the level of 60-65 mln tonnes, in order to satisfy grain demands of the country, stated the Ministry of Agriculture. The Government enforced the grain export ban from August 15 to December 31, 2010.
