Prospects for the harvest of sunflower in 2012 worsened – Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center
The prospects for the harvest of sunflower seed in Ukraine in 2012 significantly worsened. The market already received information about charging-off of certain low-developed oilseed areas, declared Tatyana Adamenko, Head of the agricultural meteorology department of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, on July 11.
According to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Center, as of June 15 the average yield of sunflower seed would total 17 c/ha. However, the situation changed, the official specification of the forecast will be made in early August, and the forecast will be possibly reduced by 1-2 c/ha, said the expert.
She also explained that due to the excess heat conditions at the fields, ripening of sunflower seed areas in Ukraine in the current year is likely to begin in two weeks earlier compared to the usual period.
