MILK sales have increased since the supermarket milk price war began.

The news comes as the Senate Inquiry into Milk Prices is due to be released today.

New figures from Dairy Australia reveal total milk sales up 4 per cent on September last year.

The year-to-date sales were up 2.7 per cent.

Natural growth in milk sales is between 1 and 2 per cent annually.

Fresh Logic director Steve Spencer said price did have some affect on sales, but the increase did not translate to better returns for farmers.

"Brands have lost market share (to supermarket house brand milk) and the wholesale value of milk has fallen because of the mix changing," Mr Spencer said.
