Fall in temperature slowed down rate of sowing

sowing 2017

The biggest slippage of spring field works is observed in seeding of corn, sunflowers and soybeans.

As of April 21, 32% of spring crops has been planted, for comparison, last year at this date 46% of spring crops was planted. According to farmers, fall in temperature as well as huge amount of precipitation that occurred last week, especially in Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa and Ivano-Frankivsk regions will not have significant effects on field crops, apart from extending sowing campaign that has been already shifted by 5-7 days.

On the basis of polling of agricultural producers, the situation with fruit and berry plantations is worse than the situation with the field though not critical. The farmers of Vinnytsia region expressed their slight concerns about this year's harvest of stone, but it concerns more households than industrial enterprises performing measures to prevent adverse effects of the weather. Gardeners noted the necessity of monitoring condition of plantings once the favorable weather is set, and the trees continue blooming and being pollinated.

Households in the south of Zaporizhzhia region did not mark the critical condition of stone gardens as well. According to the heads of households, rain and low temperatures are moving away and within the next few days the optimum weather conditions are expected for early flowering of gardens. For the time being farmers are anticipating no loss of productivity, except stone in households that will reduce the supply for processing enterprises.
