Iran became one of the leaders of Ukrainian sunflower oil imports
According to data of the customs statistics, in June 2012 Iran became the second after India in terms of the imports of Ukrainian sunflower oil, and purchased 55.84 thsd tonnes of the product. Moreover, in the period of September-June of 2011/12 MY the imports of Ukrainian sunflower oil to Iran reached the level of 148.8 thsd tonnes, which allowed to the country to take the fifth place among the TOP-5 of importers of the product of Ukrainian origin.
However, such dynamics of growth, most likely, will not last long enough. Once it became well-known of the June escalating volumes of imports of agricultural products towards the country, the USA announced about strengthening of the economic sanctions against Iran. In particular, on July 12 the US Government imposed limitations for at least 9 Iranian banks, which continued using the system SWIFT.
It is also worth noting that Iran is not stable in the rates of Ukrainian sunflower oil purchasing. Thus, in 2010/11 MY Iran did not purchased the product at all, but in 2009/10 MY the country reached the 6th place among the leading importers, and imported 132.89 thsd tonnes of sunflower oil from Ukraine.
