In May Ukraine exported 600 thsd tonnes of maize
The belated decision of the Government of Ukraine concerning cancellation of quotas on grain exports led to the fact that in May 2011, the country exported 600 thsd tonnes of maize only, stated Vladimir Klimenko, President of Ukrainian Grain Association, on June 1.
According to him, if Ukraine in May-June 2011 exported 4.5 mln tonnes of grain, the carry-over stocks as July 1 would be around 6 mln tonnes.
At the same time, on July 1 the country will have very large stocks of maize within frames of 8-9 mln tonnes, which is rather high unprecedented figures for over stocks, said the president of Ukrainian Grain Association, noting that in 2 weeks agrarians of Ukraine will begin harvesting works.
According to him, Ukraine had the chance to sell 15 mln tonnes of grains of the harvest-2010 at the sum of 4.5 bln USD, but did not do it.
