Global flour exports near 200 million cwts
The record pace of world flour exports stepped up in the last months of 2008-09 to reach a new high, the International Grains Council (IGC) said in its latest Grain Market Report released Oct. 30.
In addition, the Council said global flour exports in 2009-10 were on the way toward equaling, if not exceeding, the record of the past year. The IGC placed world flour exports in 2008-09 at 12,415,000 tonnes of wheat equivalent (just short of 200 million cwts in terms of flour), up 440,000 from last March’s estimate. The IGC projected 2009-10 flour trade at 12,430,000 tonnes of wheat equivalent.
Kazakhstan and Turkey continue as the leading exporters, while Afghanistan and Uzbekistan rank far in the lead as import markets.
