Farm products from Ukraine could take up to 15% of Korean market, agriculture ministry says
Ukraine is considering the possibility of increasing the supply of agricultural products to the market of the Republic of Korea. In particular, it is about domestic corn, sunflower oil and confectioneries. In addition, Ukraine is preparing to start exporting meat to the Korean market.
This has been discussed at a meeting of Ukraines Minister of Agriculture and Food with the president of the association of interparliamentary relations with Ukraine of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Cho Jeong-sik.
For us it is important that 10-15 percent of agricultural and food products, which are imported by Korea, were Ukrainian. So, last year, Ukraine has successfully started exporting vegetables to Korea. However, we have good potential also for other positions. In particular, Ukraine in the near future plans to become one of the major suppliers of grain to Korea, the Ukrainian minister said.
Prysiazhniuk also noted that Ukraine is preparing to launch supplies of meat to Korea. To this end, the government completes certification of relevant Ukrainian enterprises. However, we are considering not only the market of grain and meat. Ukraine may increase the presence of other domestic agricultural products in Korea, such as sunflower oil and confectionaries, he added.
The Korean side confirmed its interest in buying Ukrainian grain, meat and other agricultural products. South Korea is also considering the possibility of strengthening investment in the Ukrainian agricultural sector.
