EC to approve EUR1.6 bln macro financial aid to Ukraine on March 19
Macro financial assistance loans to Ukraine of EUR 1.6 billion, declared by European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, will be submitted to the European Commission for approval next Wednesday, NRCU reports.
«The commission will propose macro financial assistance, showing our solidarity,» EC representative Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen said at a briefing in Brussels on last week Friday. In addition, the commission will view the issue of simplifying the visa regime as a whole, which will also concern Ukraine.
«The agenda for next week also includes a visa package in which we present a simplification of the process with respect to Schengen visas, which will include a clear and shorter term and a more simple form to request a visa, an easier way to issue multiple entry visas and a new type of visas, allowing those who intend to travel around Europe to stay in the Schengen area for more than 90 days,» Hansen said.
Asked by journalists about the possible timing of signing the political part of the Association Agreement, the EC representative noted that the work is ongoing to sign the document as soon as possible.
