Crisis did not prevent Ukraine’s agriculture from growing

The national agriculture increases its production level. Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko reported this at today’s government meeting. So, the total agricultural output increased by 19.1% in April against March and by 14.4% in March against February. According to Tymoshenko, the agriculture is nearly the only branch that showed risen production indicators in January / April 2009 compared to this same period in 2008. Tymoshenko noticed that, despite the financial constraints, peasants had managed to sow spring crops and pulses on larger areas this year than in 2008: 6,822 Th ha and 6,617 Th ha, respectively. The Premier said that an All-Ukrainian meeting with village administration heads would be held in Kyiv on May 23 to continue supporting farmers and developing rural areas. It is planned to gather about 11,000 people from all over Ukraine. Simultaneously, an open government sitting will take place to approve a package of decisions for supporting the agricultural sector, developing the agricultural cooperation and improving the social and economic situation in rural areas. Also, Tymoshenko informed that the Y2010 Budget would be worked out with cardinally different approaches to financing the countryside.
