Cognac spirit import advances 5% in January-August 2009
The Ukrainian State Statistics Committee has announced that import of cognac spirits to Ukraine totalled 639,422 decilitres through January-August 2009, up 5.1% against the same period in 2008. About 504,012 decilitres were imported from Georgia, 39,890 decilitres from Azerbaijan. Experts say that almost all cognac spirits imported to Ukraine are purchased in the Georgian city Poti, where they are imported from Azerbaijan and other countries members of the WTO. At present, delivery of cognac spirits via Georgia is the most profitable way for Ukrainian manufacturers to buy high quality raw materials made in France and Spain.
Import of finished products to the Ukrainian market does not exceed 100,000 decilitres per year. In import structure, 39% falls at Georgian brandy, 29% at Moldavian one, and 25% at Armenian.
