Beef and Pork Production Down in January-April 2009
Fresh or chilled beef and veal production for January - April 2009 totaled to 21.3 thousand tons, down 41.6% from the same period of 2008 (36.5 thousand tons). Thereat, April production output was 6.1 thousand tons, as Ukrainian State Statistics Committee reports.
Fresh or chilled pork production was down 41.4% to 29.2 thousand tons in January - April of the current year (49.9 thousand tons in 2008). April production output was 8 thousand tons (-0.7 thousand tons from March).
At the same time, fresh or chilled poultry meat and edible by-product manufacturing surged 5.7% to 193.5 thousand tons (182.3 thousand tons in 2008). April production dropped only 0.6 thousand tons from March output.
Sausage production for the first four months declined 18.4% to 83.3 thousand tons from 102.1 thousand tons in 2008.
