Agriculture Ministry: Price of sugar can easily grow to UAH 7.20 per kg
The Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine believes that an increase in sugar prices to UAH 7-7.20 per kilogram by the end of the year is adequate.
Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Mykola Prysiazhniuk said this after a government meeting on Thursday.
"We predict that the price could easily rise to UAH 7-7.20. It will be attractive to producers and a normal price in the social basket," Prysiazhniuk said.
He said that the current price - UAH 6.70 per kilogram - does not cover the prime cost of sugar.
When asked by journalists what measures the ministry will take if the price rises above the figures provided, the minister said that the Agrarian Fund has 180,000 tons of sugar. "We have ten percent in reserve," he said.
