38% of examined juice fails to meet standards
Specialists of the State Committee for Technical Regulation and Consumer Policy of Ukraine (Derzhspozhivstandard, Gospotrebstandart) have examined 73,000 litres of juice and juice-containing products in Q3 2009, 28,000 litres of them (38%) have been declared not to meet the existing norms, and have been withdrawn from retail outlets. The main reasons were as follows: lack of required information about goods (accounted for 5% of rejected products), absence of numbers of correspondence certificates (31%), absence of accompanying documents (including those proving quality and safety of goods, 91%), past sell-by dates of products (1%). Complete examination of products, whether they meet standards by physicochemical and microbiological parameters, was not carried out because of lack of financing.
Gospotrebstandart totally examined 727 commercial enterprises engaged in sales of juice and juice-containing drinks. Violations were revealed in 238 of them.
