Russian food ban a reminder that volatility is outside our control
The ban on food exports to Russia, which was announced last week, could not have happened at a better or worse time for the Irish dairy industry. If nothing else, it provides a very clear example of the potential volatility the dairy industry faces to anyone still thinking of expanding of getting into dairying. Hryvnia falls to historical minimum
The National Bank of Ukraine lowered the official hryvnia rate to 13.1393 UAH/USD. According to InterBusinessConsulting, trading in the U.S. dollar opened with the following quotations 13.0000/13.3000 UAH/USD, by 12:00 a.m., prices grew to 13.2000/13.5000 UAH/USD. By the closure of trading, price levels reached their maximum 13.4500/13.6000 UAH/USD.

Iraq market takes the largest share of poultry exports - 28%.
According to Ministry of Revenue and Duties of Ukraine, Ukraine exported 85,7 thousand tons of poultry in the amount of $ 130,2 million during the first seven months of 2014. Major part of poultry was sold to the Iraq market, revenue from sales reached $ 36,7 million that represented 28 % of the total poultry exports. This was reported by the Association “Ukrainian Agribusiness Club” (UCAB).

Ukrainian grain harvest is likely to meet expectations of 60m tonnes this year
The Ukrainian Agribusiness Club (UCAB) expects the 2014 harvest to be in line with expectations of between 58-60 million tonnes. Whereas the acreage sown in 2014 is similar to that of last years, increases in yield are expected to boost the overall tonnage of this years harvest.

Production of skimmed milk increases by 52%
According to the State Statistics Service, in Ukraine the production of skimmed milk powder reached over 27 thousand tons in the first half of 2014, showing a rise of 52% as compared to the corresponding figure in the previous year. This was reported by the Association “Ukrainian Agribusiness Club” (UCAB).
