Russia has already prohibited imports of such Ukrainian commodity headings as confectionery products, milk and dairy products, live pigs, juices, fruit, canned fruit, vegetables and fish, maize grits, soybeans and soybean meal, sunflower seeds, potatoes and onions.

 In 2013 value of exports of Ukrainian products, which are now restricted, to Russian Federation amounted to $954 million. Exports of other Ukrainian food products to Russia in 2013 amounted to $987 million, but the risk of their restriction is high, considering recent statements of Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance.

“There is an interesting fact that in recent years Russia had the biggest share in Ukrainian exports of abovementioned food products. Thus in 2013 86,72% of Ukrainian cheese exports, 44% of soybean meal exports, 30,28% of juice exports, 77,72% of canned fish exports, 40% of onions exports accounted for Russia.  In other words, Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance has restricted imports of those Ukrainian products which were exported mainly to Russia. In such conditions Ukrainian producers should immediately change their orientation to the new foreign markets. First of all they should focus their attention on EU which has opened its market for many Ukrainian products”, - said Vitalii Kordysh, the coordinator of microeconomic research of the AgriSurvey Agency.
