In January the price for live pigs decreased by 9%
Purchase prices for live pigs in Ukraine continue to decrease. According to UCAB monitoring, in January they declined by 9%. At the end of the month pigs of meat breeds were sold for 26-27 UAH/kg (including VAT), pigs of second category - for 24-26 UAH/kg (including VAT).
At the beginning of February prices continue falling and might create challenges for pork producers, because many of them say they have low profitability. Despite the low price of pork, the demand for it remains quite low. The price for end consumers has not decreased yet. According to the State Statistics Service, the average price for this type of meat in Ukraine in the second half of January constituted 68.38 UAH/kg, which is only 1.5% lower than at the beginning of the year. But after a few weeks the situation for final consumers is going to change.
