According to Ministry of Revenue and Duties of Ukraine, Ukraine exported 85,7 thousand tons of poultry in the amount of $ 130,2 million during the first seven months of 2014. Major part of poultry was sold to the Iraq market, revenue from sales reached $ 36,7 million that represented 28 % of the total poultry exports. This was reported by the Association “Ukrainian Agribusiness Club” (UCAB).

During seven months this year about 22 thousand tons of poultry were exported to Iraq, while for the same period in 2013 export amounted to 8 thousand tons. At the same time, poultry sales to the Russian Federation have dropped significantly. For many years the largest share of poultry exports should be noted to have been falling on the Russian Federation. However, dependence on this market was decreasing progressively with each passing year.

Ukrainian poultry producers managed to diversify markets for their products in 2013. Entry into the European Union market became great achievement for this sector last year. In 2103, only small consignments of chicken were exported to EU, whereas following the results of seven months this year the Netherlands has already ranked the second in the structure of chicken exports with share of about 10.5%.

“Although at present four companies are authorized to export poultry to Russia, its export has dropped significantly owing to being restricted by Russia while supplying to its market.  Exporters do not wish to risk and prefer more reliable markets. This is a good example the russian market was rejected without significant losses for this sector due to the market diversification”- noted Alina Zharko, Advisor on Agricultural Markets of UCAB.
