Setting the course to the use of mixtures of gasoline with bioethanol can expand the domestic consumption of corn in Ukraine by 800 thousand tons.

This conclusion was made by experts of the Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" (UCAB), who were analyzing the provisions of the Law of Ukraine № 4970-VI of June 19, 2012 "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine concerning the production and use of motor fuels containing bio-components", which provide a phased increase of ethanol in motor gasoline, produced and / or sold in the territory of Ukraine.

According to this law, in 2013 it is recommended that the content of ethanol in gasoline should be not less than 5%, in 2014-2015 a 5 percentage contain will become mandatory, and since 2016 the content of ethanol should grow to at least 7%.
According to UCAB experts, to provide a 5% of ethanol content in gasoline, Ukraine will need to produce 320 million liters of bioethanol annually. It is likely that the corn will be used as the raw material for ethanol production. "Given that out of one ton of corn 380-400 liters of bioethanol can be produced, covering the needs of 320 million liters of ethanol will require about 810 thousand tons of corn" - says the UCAB expert of agricultural markets Roman Slastyon. "The consequence of such a step may be not only a reduction of volatility of Ukraine, but also the increase of the stability on the Ukrainian market of corn, which is now primarily export-oriented," -  the UCAB expert underscored.
